Stephen Root Confirms He Voices Brian Heder in GTA 6

Stephen Root has confirmed he is in Grand Theft Auto VI. Asked about the game in an Associated Press video interview, the actor answered: “Yeah, you’re gonna see me in there.” Variety reports that Root voices Brian Heder, one of the eight characters in Rockstar’s Only in Leonida profiles, and GameSpot dates the confirmation to September 13, 2026.

What Root said

Root said players had worked it out long before he spoke. “I think from the first rollout of ‘GTA’ that they were doing maybe almost a year ago, they had my character in there. And there were too many people who knew me from ‘King of the Hill’ and my voice,” he told the AP, as quoted by Variety. “So I think that secret kind of got divulged then.”

Root is best known for his voice work on King of the Hill and for playing Milton in Office Space. On September 14, 2026, the day after he confirmed the role, he won his first Primetime Emmy, for supporting actor in a comedy series as Wyck in Widow’s Bay. GameSpot notes that this makes him only the second Emmy-winning actor to appear in a GTA game; the first was James Woods, who voiced Mike Toreno in GTA: San Andreas.

Who Brian Heder is

Rockstar’s profile calls Brian “a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling” in the Leonida Keys. He still moves product through his boat yard with his third wife, Lori, and lets Jason Duval live rent-free on one of his properties in exchange for help shaking down locals.
