GTA 6 Online — Release Date and Multiplayer Status
The short answer
Rockstar has not announced a GTA 6 online mode, release date, price, player count or crossplay support. The launch product is described as a single-player experience. Store labels mention one player, offline play and optional purchases, but none of those labels confirms or rules out a separate multiplayer release later.

Is there a GTA 6 Online?
Rockstar has published nothing about an online mode. No release date, no description, no confirmation that one is planned.
The only official wording that touches it comes from the pre-order announcement, which calls Grand Theft Auto VI a “single player experience”. That describes the game being sold; it is not a promise that an online mode will never follow. GTA 5 shipped as a single-player game and GTA Online arrived two weeks later.
Player counts, server models and launch windows circulating now have no official source behind them.
What the store listings say
PlayStation’s official GTA VI page lists the game as 1 player, with offline play enabled and in-game purchases optional. The Taiwan Xbox Store listing likewise says single player and that the game offers in-app purchases. These are store labels. They do not say what can be bought in the game, and they do not rule an online mode in or out.
The free month of GTA+ that comes with digital copies is not a GTA 6 online mode either. The benefits Rockstar’s edition page lists for it, such as a monthly GTA$500,000 deposit and discounted vehicles, are for GTA Online. Details are in the pre-order guide.
Is GTA 6 Online available at launch?
No launch plan has been announced. Rockstar’s November 19, 2026 date applies to Grand Theft Auto VI on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. None of the official pages says that an online mode launches that day, launches later or is sold separately.
GTA Online arriving two weeks after GTA 5 in 2013 is historical context, not a schedule for this game. The current release-date guide therefore covers only the announced single-player product.
Will GTA 6 Online be free or cost extra?
Rockstar has not announced a price, access model or separate edition for a GTA 6 online mode. The included month of GTA+ does not answer that question: the listed benefits apply to the existing GTA Online service.
Claims that multiplayer will be free, bundled, sold separately or require a particular subscription are unconfirmed. Platform subscriptions may have their own multiplayer rules, but Rockstar has not described how they would apply to an unannounced mode.
Crossplay, platforms and PC
No crossplay or cross-progression plan has been published. The separate crossplay answer tracks that question without treating a shared launch date as evidence of shared servers.
The announced game launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That does not establish which platforms a future online mode would support. A PC version of the game itself also remains unannounced, so there is no official PC Online date, beta or system requirement.
Characters, progress and GTA Online transfers
Rockstar has not said whether players would create a new online character, transfer a GTA Online character, share money or items, or carry any progress across games. The official character biographies cover Jason, Lucia and six supporting entries in the single-player story; they do not describe multiplayer avatars.
