GTA 6 Platforms — PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC Answered

GTA 6 launches only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation says it will not run on PS4, and no Xbox One, Switch or PC version has been announced.

    Sources and evidence

    Official information

Where the information on this page comes from. Analysis and speculation are labelled and are not official statements.

    The launch platforms

Two, and only two: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has named no others.

PlatformCan you play GTA 6 on it?
PlayStation 5 (incl. Digital Edition)Yes — launch platform
PS5 ProYes — listed as “PS5 Pro Enhanced”
Xbox Series XYes — launch platform
Xbox Series SYes — launch platform
PlayStation 4No — PlayStation says it is not playable on PS4
    Xbox OneNo version announced
Nintendo Switch / Switch 2No version announced
    PCNo version announced
Phone or tabletNo mobile version; you can stream your own console (see below)
    Cloud gamingNot announced
    VR headsetNo VR version announced

The Series S is on the list. Rockstar has not said whether the game runs differently on Series X and Series S.

Can you play GTA 6 on PS4?

No. PlayStation’s official Grand Theft Auto VI page, which Rockstar links to from its own game site, says “the game is not playable on PlayStation 4” and that it “will not be available for PlayStation 4 consoles.” A PS4 owner needs a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S to play at launch.

    What about Xbox One?

No Xbox One version has been announced. The only Xbox consoles Rockstar has named are the Series X and Series S, so for now the answer is the same as for Switch: nothing to buy, and no official word either way. For Series X and Series S, see GTA 6 on Xbox; for subscriptions, see is GTA 6 on Game Pass.

    PS5 Pro

A PS5 Pro is not required: PlayStation’s game page says the game releases for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro, and tags it “PS5 Pro Enhanced”. It does not say what the enhancement is, so any resolution or frame-rate figure you see did not come from Rockstar or PlayStation.

    PC is a separate question

A PC version has not been announced at all: no date, no system requirements, no store listing. The 2027 you often see is an estimate based on how long earlier Rockstar games took to reach PC, not something Rockstar has said. Two pages cover this in detail:

Phones, handhelds, cloud gaming and VR

There is no mobile, VR or cloud version of GTA 6. What you can do is stream a copy you already own on a PS5 or Xbox to another screen. That still needs the console at home and a good connection.

Can you play GTA 6 on your phone?

Not as a phone game, but you can stream it from your own console:

    • PS5: the GTA VI listing on PlayStation Store says “Remote Play supported”. Sony’s PS Remote Play app streams games from your PS5 to iPhone and iPad (iOS 14 or later), Android phones and tablets (Android 9 or later), PC and Mac. Sony asks for at least 5Mbps and recommends 15Mbps, over Wi-Fi or mobile data.
    • Xbox: Microsoft’s remote play streams “games installed on your console” to Android and iOS devices, Windows PCs and some smart TVs. The GTA VI store page does not mention remote play either way.

    Handhelds

    • PlayStation Portal works through Remote Play, so it can stream GTA 6 from your own PS5. It does not run the game itself.
    • Steam Deck, ROG Ally and other PC handhelds would need the PC version, and none has been announced.
    • Switch 2: no version announced (see the table above).

    Cloud gaming

Cloud gaming runs the game on a server instead of your own console. Nothing has been announced for GTA 6 on any service:

    • Xbox Cloud Gaming needs a Game Pass subscription, or a game that is on Microsoft’s “stream your own games” list, which covers only “select games you own or buy” (Xbox). GTA 6 is not on Game Pass (is GTA 6 on Game Pass). The “Xbox cloud saves” line on the store page means your saves are stored online. It is not cloud gaming.
    • PlayStation Plus Premium streams “select” PS5 games to a PS5 or PlayStation Portal (PlayStation). Neither Sony nor Rockstar has said GTA VI is one of them.
    • GeForce Now and other PC cloud services stream PC games, so they would need a PC version.

    VR

No VR mode or VR version has been announced, and the PlayStation Store listing has no PS VR2 label. Xbox remote play can run on Meta Quest headsets, but that shows the game on a flat virtual screen. It is not VR.

Watching the Extended Look on Netflix is not the same as playing either: it is a video. See GTA 6 on Netflix.

    Playing together across platforms

Sharing a launch day does not mean PS5 and Xbox players can play together. Crossplay has not been announced — see is GTA 6 crossplay.
