Can You Gift GTA 6? PS5, Xbox and Gift Card Options

    Last updated:

    The short answer

Yes, in three ways. A PlayStation Store or Xbox gift card lets the recipient buy or pre-order GTA 6 on their own account. Xbox can send some digital games as gifts, but the GTA 6 pre-order has no gift option. A boxed copy holds a download code, and PlayStation codes only work in the region they were sold for.

Can you buy GTA 6 for someone else?

Yes. There are three ways to do it, and which one works depends on the recipient’s console and country:

    OptionPS5Xbox Series X|SWhat to check
Store gift cardYesYesSame country or region as their account
Digital gift sent from the storeNo such option on PlayStationNot for the GTA 6 pre-orderThe Xbox page has no Buy as gift option
Boxed copy (download code)YesYesPlayStation codes are region-locked

None of this is a Rockstar policy for GTA 6. These are the standard PlayStation and Microsoft store rules, and Rockstar’s support site has no article about gifting. For the standard price and what each edition includes, see GTA 6 editions and price.

    PlayStation: send a gift card

The PlayStation Store page for GTA VI has only a Pre-Order button, and none of the Sony support pages we checked describe a way to send a game to someone else’s account. Sony’s own answer is the gift card: its gift card page says “PlayStation Store gift cards are the go-to way of gifting digital games on PS5, PS5 Pro and PS4.”

The card can be spent on “anything digital on PlayStation Store”, and Sony lists digital pre-orders by name, so the recipient can use it to pre-order GTA 6 themselves. Before you buy:

    • Match the region. Sony’s redemption guide says “The voucher code needs to be for the same region as your account.” The region is printed on the card, and an account’s region cannot be changed.
    • Redeem on the right account. “It isn’t possible to transfer funds or content between accounts.”
    • Cover the full price. GTA 6 costs $79.99 in the US, so check the card value against the price in the recipient’s country. See GTA 6 price by country.

Xbox: buy as a gift, or send a gift card

The Microsoft Store can send some digital games straight to another person. Xbox Support explains it on its digital gifts help page: a game that can be gifted shows a Buy as gift option on its product page. The recipient gets a code by email and on their console.

GTA 6 cannot be sent this way at the moment. When we checked the GTA VI page while signed in on October 8, 2026, it had no Buy as gift option, only pre-order buttons. That matches the rule Xbox set when it introduced gifting: its 2017 announcement said gifts did “not include … pre-orders.” For now, send an Xbox gift card instead. The option may appear once the game is out on November 19, so check the page again then.

If gifting does open up after launch, Microsoft’s rules say:

    • Same country. “Givers and recipients must always be in the same country or region.” A code bought in another region cannot be redeemed.
    • You pay straight away. Under Microsoft’s gift terms, “You will be charged immediately upon purchase of the Gift.”
    • Refunds are limited. You can cancel a gift up to 14 days after buying it or until it is redeemed, whichever comes first. The recipient cannot return it, but they can pass the code on to someone else.
    • There is a gift limit. If you hit it, you “may have to wait up to 30 days” before sending another.

    A boxed copy

The boxed edition of GTA 6 holds a download code instead of a disc, and it can ship or be picked up from November 12. Rockstar’s platforms and editions article adds the rules that matter for a gift:

    • PlayStation codes are region-locked. The code has to match the region of the recipient’s account, so buy it from a shop in their country.
    • Xbox codes are not region-locked.
    • Japanese codes expire 170 days after the November 19 release.

Rockstar sells the boxed edition on its own store, and any retailer’s normal return rules apply. More detail is in does GTA 6 come on disc.

Bonuses, age settings and shared consoles

    • Pre-order bonuses. The Vintage Vice City Pack comes with any purchase before November 20, and the free month of GTA+ comes with any digital purchase before then. Rockstar has not said which account gets them when a game is sent as a gift or bought as a boxed code. With a gift card, the recipient makes the purchase themselves, so it counts as their own.
    • Child accounts. Store listings show GTA 6 as ESRB Mature 17+ in the US and PEGI 18 in the UK (see GTA 6 age rating). Microsoft’s gift terms say gifts to minors are subject to age restrictions and family settings. On PlayStation, a parent can briefly lift the age filter to redeem a code only in the US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Japan and Korea, according to Sony’s voucher help page.
    • Same house, same console. If the person shares your PS5 or Xbox, you may not need a second copy: console sharing lets others on your main console play games you bought. See can you cancel a GTA 6 pre-order.
