Mount Kalaga in GTA 6 — Map Location and National Park

Mount Kalaga is the high country of the State of Leonida, up against the state’s northern border and described by Rockstar as a national landmark. Its introduction is headed “Wild, Wild Country.” Of the six regions, it is the clearest sign that Leonida is not simply a copy of Florida.

The introduction opens with distance: “Room to breathe on the state’s northern fringes.” Then the specifics: “A national landmark up against the state’s northern border, Mount Kalaga offers prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails. In the lush surrounding backwoods, hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals live far from the prying eyes of the government.”

Why a mountain matters here

Real Florida has no mountains. It is the flattest state in the United States, and its highest natural point, Britton Hill, reaches just 345 feet.

So putting a mountain called Mount Kalaga into a Florida-inspired state, and calling it a national landmark, is a deliberate choice. It shows Rockstar building a world around what an open world needs — driving, parachuting, exploring — rather than tracing a real map. Grassrivers and the Leonida Keys are recognisably Florida; Mount Kalaga adds forest and high ground.

The backwoods, and who lives there

“Hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals” living “far from the prying eyes of the government” is, after Vice City, the most vivid group of people Rockstar has described. Their distrust of government is close in spirit to Cal Hampton, the conspiracy-minded character who listens in on the radio all day — a connection we are drawing, not one Rockstar has made.

In Rockstar’s earlier open worlds, the mountain tended to become the community’s favourite place for secrets and parachute jumps. Mount Kalaga may play the same role, but that is speculation for now.

Not announced yet

• Height and size. No elevation figure exists; ignore numbers that circulate.
• Exact position. Beyond “up against the state’s northern border,” its extent has not been published.
• Getting up it. Whether a road reaches the top or it is trails and dirt bikes.
• Outdoor activities. Whether hunting and fishing are full game systems.
• The backwoods residents. Hostile faction, mission givers or background characters.
