    FAQ

    What is Jason Duval's background?
Rockstar's official bio says he grew up around grifters and crooks, served a stint in the Army to shake off a troubled adolescence, and ended up in the Leonida Keys working for local drug runners. Branch, rank and dates of service are not published.
Is Jason the main character, or is Lucia?
Neither is billed above the other. Rockstar presents GTA 6 as a two-hander in which the pair are forced to rely on each other, the same way GTA 5 was built around three leads.
    Who voices Jason Duval?
Rockstar has not published a voice cast or credits for GTA 6. Names that circulate online have not been confirmed by Rockstar.

Jason Duval is one of the two playable protagonists in Grand Theft Auto VI, alongside Lucia Caminos. Rockstar confirmed the two-lead structure when it revealed the game on December 4, 2023, and published a short official biography for Jason on its Only in Leonida page in May 2025.

Who Jason Duval is, in Rockstar’s words

Rockstar’s bio opens with a line that does most of the work: Jason “wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder.” He grew up around grifters and crooks, joined the Army “trying to shake off his troubled teens,” and came out the other side doing what he knows — working for drug runners in the Keys. The bio’s own verdict is that “it might be time to try something new.”

The rest of the cast fills in his circumstances. Brian Heder, an old-school smuggler, lets Jason live in one of his properties for free as long as he helps with local shakedowns and drops by for Brian’s wife Lori’s sangria now and then. Cal Hampton is his friend and a fellow associate of Brian’s. That is the whole of Jason’s world before the story starts: the Keys, a landlord who is also his employer, and a paranoid friend with a radio scanner.

Then Lucia. Rockstar puts it carefully: meeting her “could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him,” and Jason “knows how he’d like it to turn out but right now, it’s hard to tell.”

    The story Rockstar has described

The official premise, published on the game’s editions page, is short enough to quote in full. Jason and Lucia “have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”

That is the entire published plot. There is no mission list, no named antagonist, and no explanation of what the “easy score” is.

What the bio does not say

The bio is short and written to set a tone, not to answer questions. “A stint in the Army” is all Rockstar says about his service; branch, dates and discharge are not stated. The “Bonnie and Clyde” framing that runs through press coverage is a writers’ comparison. Rockstar’s own language is “forced to rely on each other.”

What has not been explained at all is how switching works. GTA 5 let players switch between three protagonists almost freely outside missions. Whether GTA 6 does the same, gates switching behind story progress, or ties each lead to particular missions is unannounced.

    What is still unknown

    • Service history. Army confirmed; branch, rank, dates and discharge are not.
    • Voice cast. Rockstar has not published a cast or credits.
    • How he and Lucia meet. The bio describes the stakes of meeting her, not the circumstances.
    • Switching. Both leads are playable; how you switch between them has not been explained.
    • The “easy score.” What goes wrong, and with whom, is not described.
