Does GTA 6 Come on Disc? Physical Edition Explained
The short answer
There is no disc version of Grand Theft Auto VI. The boxed Standard Edition is a code in a box, not a disc, and the Ultimate Edition is sold digitally only. Every copy therefore downloads the full game, and boxed codes go on sale November 12 so physical buyers can preload.

Does GTA 6 come on a disc?
There is no disc. The official edition page lists the Standard Edition as digital or a boxed download code, and the Ultimate Edition as digital only. Buying the box gets you a printed code and packaging — the game itself still downloads in full.
What that changes for you
- Storage is not optional. There is no partial install from a disc, so you need room for the whole game. The size has never been announced.
- Preload still applies. Boxed codes go on sale November 12, the same day digital preloads open, specifically so physical buyers can download early.
- Resale and lending work differently. A redeemed code is tied to the account that redeemed it. A disc can be passed on; a code cannot be un-redeemed.
- A disc drive is irrelevant. A digital-edition PS5 or an Xbox Series S runs the game exactly the same way.
Not announced
Whether a disc-based release appears later, and whether any region gets different packaging, have not been addressed.
