Can You Cancel a GTA 6 Pre-Order? PS5 and Xbox Refunds
The short answer
Yes. On PlayStation, a pre-order paid more than 14 days before release can be cancelled for a refund at any time before November 19, as long as the game has not started downloading, and preloading counts. On Xbox you can cancel in your order history until 10 days before launch, then request a refund. Retailer orders follow the retailer.

Background and full explanationFurther context and details
Can you cancel a GTA 6 pre-order?
Yes, and the rules depend on where you bought it. Rockstar does not handle PlayStation or Xbox pre-orders itself. Its pre-order purchase FAQ sends those to PlayStation or Xbox support, and says questions about copies bought from other retailers go to that retailer.
PlayStation Store: decide before the preload starts
The PlayStation Store cancellation policy applies as long as you “have not started downloading or streaming the main part of the digital product pre-order (including pre-loading before release)”:
| When you paid | When you can cancel for a refund |
|---|---|
| More than 14 days before release | Any time before the release date |
| 14 days or less before release | Up to 14 days after payment |
Once the download has started, “you will not be able to obtain a refund unless the item is faulty.” That matters for GTA 6 because preloading opens November 12, and Sony notes that downloads start on their own if Automatic Downloads is switched on. If you are unsure about keeping your pre-order, decide before November 12 or turn off automatic downloads. The Hong Kong and Taiwan versions of the policy say the same.
Xbox: cancel up to 10 days before launch
The Xbox pre-order FAQ says you can cancel “up to 10 days before the game launches” from your Microsoft account’s order history. After that you may already have been billed, and cancelling means requesting a refund. Microsoft does not say whether preloading changes this.
Rockstar Store and other retailers
A boxed copy pre-ordered from the Rockstar Store is cancelled through Xsolla, which runs the store; Rockstar’s FAQ links to the steps. For any other shop, its own refund policy applies. The boxed edition holds a download code rather than a disc, so check what the retailer allows once the code has been sent or revealed — see does GTA 6 come on disc.
What you lose by cancelling
- The free month of GTA+. Rockstar’s redemption article says: “If a player refunds their purchase of GTAVI and then pre-orders it again, they will not receive another free month of GTA+.”
- Not the Vintage Vice City Pack, as long as you buy again before November 20: it comes with any purchase before then. See the Vintage Vice City Pack guide.
Can someone else on your console play it?
Both consoles let other people on your main console play games you bought. These are standard platform features, not GTA 6 terms:
- PS5: with Console Sharing and Offline Play on, “anyone who uses your PS5 console” can play games you purchased and downloaded. It can be on for one PS5 at a time. The US PlayStation Store listing for GTA VI says the same for this game.
- Xbox: making a console your home Xbox “gives friends and family access to your games and content when you’re not signed in.” You can have one home Xbox at a time.
